The Senate of the Associate Students is the legislative branch of ASNMSU and is made up of 31 senators, elected by NMSU students for each college. The Senate reviews legislation providing funds to groups/projects on campus. This body must also approve all executive appointments made by the President.
Many students are concerned with the GPA resolution currently being considered by several university government organizations. Please see this powerpoint for information pertinent to this issue.
The Vice President of ASNMSU, Matt Ellis, serves as president of the Senate but cannot vote unless there is a tie. If the President of ASNMSU is no longer able to fulfill the duties of that office, such powers devolve upon the Vice President.
The Senate may also initiate impeachment hearings against any individual holding a position of trust and confidence within ASNMSU if they have committed a transgression.
